Nearby Places to Eat

There are a number of places to eat along highway 71.  Our family especially enjoys Angel’s Icehouse, It’s All Good BBQ, and Pizzeria Casa Nostra.  Opies BBQ is a little bit of a longer drive than the others, but definitely worth it!!

A larger variety of restaurants and fast food can be found in Lakeway and Bee Cave, located East of Spicewood.  A few of our favorites in Lakeway are Torchy’s Tacos, P. Terry’s Burger Stand and Mangieri’s.

Grocery Stores

The closest Super Markets are H-E-B (Lakeway), located along Ranch Road 620, H-E-B (Bee Cave), located along highway 71.  These locations are roughly the same distance.

If you need to pick up a few essentials, there is a smaller local store, Paleface Grocery, where you can find a variety of pantry and frozen items.

Activities in Austin (35 min drive)

Zilker Park is a universally loved feature in Austin.  Filled with hiking trails, open grass areas and access to Lady Bird Lake.  If you visit Lady Bird Lake and bring your dog DO NOT let your dog in the water as there is blue algae that has been known to be deadly to dogs (the water in Spicewood and other surrounding areas is reported as safe).

Rainey Street has a variety of bars for people of all ages where you can sit down and relax.  There are also a ton of food trucks here for dining options.  Our favorite bar on Rainey Street is Banger’s, a German Beer Garden themed bar, stocked with over 200 beers on tap.  If you visit Austin, we definitely recommend taking a trip here to check it out as it is unique and one of the most popular spots in the city.

Congress street gives you a stunning view of the capitol as well as various dining options.  If you choose to walk around the downtown area, we recommend making a stop here. If you head south of the river, S Congress is famous for shopping, restaurants and just walking around and enjoying the view of the capitol.

S Lamar is a hub for restaurants and dive bars. This area is home to some of the oldest bars in Austin. Some of the top restaurants here are Matt’s El Rancho, Loro and Ramen Tatsu-ya
